Pope Francis has called for a day of fasting, prayer and penance on Friday 27 October for an end to war in the Israel-Palestine conflict.
That evening in St Peter's Square, Rome, at 18.00 local time, there will an hour of prayer for peace in our world "in the spirit of penance" to implore God for "peace in our days, peace in this world", he said.
The Holy Father has invited believers of various Christian confessions and those belonging to other religious traditions to join, as well as those "who carry in their heart the cause of peace in the world".
