Abbot Robert visits Monastery of Christ the Word

In January, Abbot Robert visited our dependent monastery in Zimbabwe, Monastery of Christ the Word, where he previously served for 25 years before being elected as Abbot of Ampleforth.

During his recent stay, the country's Vice-President, Dr Constantino Chiwenga, introduced his wife to the Abbot (see below), and the couple attended Mass at the monastery.

Four married couples were also received as Oblates and 62 girls from the school were confirmed. Recalling his visit, Abbot Robert says:

"The visit to Zimbabwe was refreshing and helpful to touch base with the Community and the local people. What was once again made clear was that the Community members and their presence are valued at many different levels – in the local Church, by Bishops, by the Conference of Religious and by the people who come to Christ the Word Monastery on retreat. The very fact that the Vice President took time out of his busy schedule to greet the Community is not insignificant. The final highlights were that we received eight new Oblates to the Community and 62 girls from the school were confirmed."
