Marketing and Communications Manager

Salary: per Annum – Full Time (12 Month Fixed term - Maternity cover until June 2024)

Working Days Monday to Friday 9am to 5.30pm – weekend availability required on occasions

We are looking for a Marketing and Communications Manager who will be responsible for all marketing related to the growth of our visitor experience and developing the communications strategy to ensure the sustainability of Ampleforth Abbey. 

Main Duties and Responsibilities to include:

• To lead on day-to-day marketing and communications;
• To develop an effective marketing strategy to support the growth of visitor activity and income which identifies core messages, key audiences, new markets, growth areas, partnerships, new products/services and outreach methods;
• To establish excellent business relationships and networks which will open up further Visitor development activities for Ampleforth Abbey;
• To engage with other organisations who are working effectively in the areas in which we are interested– to learn from and to work together with them;
• To assist in the development of a new communications plan to raise the profile of Ampleforth Abbey;
• To develop a vibrant and engaging virtual presence – website, social media, press – and ensuring it is well maintained and always up-to-date;
• To manage the effective production and distribution of any relevant marketing materials;

What we are looking for:

• Minimum of 2-year management experience would be ideal.
• Experience at working in destination marketing.
• Natural hospitality charm and the ability to build great relationships across the business
• You will have high standards & genuinely want to make Ampleforth Abbey a place people want to visit with great attention to detail.
• Own transport required – located Ampleforth

Ampleforth Abbey is set in the Howardian Hills with a beautiful view from most of our offices. We are a charitable organisation and currently embarking on an exciting project to renovate our Visitor Centre, Shop & Tearoom. The Abbey Church continues to be open for our visitors and our orchard is one of the largest commercial orchards in the North of England. The Abbey Church continues to be open for visitors and our retreat centre welcomes guests from all over the world.
