Football

Football at Ampleforth is offered for boys in the Lent Term with 1st, 2nd and 3rd XIs playing fixtures against schools from Yorkshire, the North-East and North-West on Wednesday and Saturday afternoons. Our fixture list is competitive, well-balanced, and fills the entire term.

Available as a games option for boys in Years 11, 12 and 13, the coaching of football has a focus on the development of technique and tactical awareness. Our teams all play in the same style and in the same formation, ensuring that the boys can make good and consistent progress during their time at the College. Our highly motivated coaches work with the boys to develop a love of playing the sport in the right way, with trials held in the first week of term allowing boys to earn their place in the squad. All boys who take the games option can be confident of being able to represent the College in a competitive fixture.

Away from competitive fixtures, boys from all year groups can engage with football in House competitions and also during activities time on a Friday afternoon.
