At Ampleforth, we are willing to talk to families from all backgrounds, irrespective of colour, race, disability or religion to assist in this difficult decision. During this dialogue we hope to be able to get to know you and your child well to assess whether their needs and aspirations fit best with what we can offer. As a Benedictine school, we believe boys and girls from Catholic or Christian families will benefit the most from an Ampleforth education.
The admission of any boy or girl is at the discretion of the Headmaster and is conditional on written acceptance of the Parent School contract. Copies of this document may be obtained from the Admissions Department. Admission to Ampleforth is usually at 13+ (Year 9) or into the Sixth Form at 16+ (Year 12). Admission into other years is also possible, subject to availability. All aspects of parental enquiries, visits, registration, and entry procedure are the responsibility of the Senior Admissions Registrar, who reports to the Headmaster. Prospective parents are invited to arrange an individual visit to the College through the Admissions Department.
Parents may register a son or daughter at any age. The completion of a registration form and the payment of the registration fee do not guarantee a place, but will ensure that the appropriate documentation for subsequent stages in the admissions procedure is dispatched in good time.
Most boys and girls are registered for entry in the September following their 13th birthday. When the number of registrations for a particular year reaches capacity, the year list will be closed and a waiting list will be brought into operation.
