Great Taste, the UK’s most coveted food awards, which celebrates the very best in food and drink, has announced the Great Taste Stars of 2018. Out of over 12,600 products to be judged, our very own Ampleforth Abbey Beer was awarded a 2-star Great Taste award, which means judges dubbed it above and beyond delicious!
The judges commented on the ‘richness immediately on the palate and good, dark, fruity, pruney, caramelised flavours, which are very tasty.’ They went on to compliment the ‘gentle effervescence on the tongue, which was appreciated and added to the experience.’ All in all, they thought Ampleforth Abbey Beer was ‘a great all-rounder with food or individually.’ Why not head over to our online shop and treat yourself to a case?
Brewed on contract for us by Little Valley Brewery, Ampleforth Abbey Beer is just one of the unique drinks that we are proud to sell here in the Ampleforth Abbey Shop and in local farm shops and delis throughout Yorkshire and beyond. We are fortunate enough to be home to one of the largest commercial orchards in the North of England, which provides the fruit for our Apple and Cider products. Our Orchard Team are preparing for another bumper harvest this year and our Sales Team have had a busy summer attending various local Shows and are now looking forward to joining a number of local events including Rievaulx Illuminations, the Living North Christmas Fair in York and the Ripley Castle Christmas Fair.
Judged by over 500 of the most demanding palates, belonging to food critics, chefs, cooks, restaurateurs and producers, as well as a whole host of food writers and journalists, Great Taste is widely acknowledged as the most respected food accreditation scheme for artisan and speciality food producers. As well as a badge of honour, the unmistakeable black and gold Great Taste label is a signpost to a wonderful tasting product, which has been discovered through hours and hours of blind-tasting by hundreds of judges.
There were 12,634 entries into Great Taste this year and of those products, 192 have been awarded a 3-star, 1,207 received a 2-star and 3,254 were awarded a 1-star accolade.
