COVID-19 update 20 March 2020
Following the latest Government advice on measures to reduce transmission, we have closed all parts of the Ampleforth Abbey site to visitors and residential guests from Friday 20th March. We are actively monitoring the development of the coronavirus situation and will re-open as soon as we can.
Following the Catholic Bishops’ of England and Wales guidance on the 18th March 2020, public services will be private and not open to the public until further notice.
The Monastic Community will continue to celebrate its daily Office and Conventual Mass in the Abbey Church, but, in accordance with the guidelines issued by the Bishops’ Conference, these will be celebrated without a public congregation. Much as the monastic community regrets this move, the guidelines must be followed. All Offices and Conventual Masses will be live streamed - further details can be found here.
Ampleforth usually welcomes many guests and we are sorry for the inconvenience and disappointment that our closure may cause. We are truly saddened that we are unable to extend our usual hospitality. You will appreciate that we are taking the current situation very seriously and our priority is the safety and wellbeing of our community and all who visit.
