All children, when they leave St Martin's Ampleforth, should be able to swim at least 25 metres. For children in the Pre-Prep it is hoped that this will be achieved by the age of 7.
As well as teaching children to be confident in the water, the teaching of swimming concentrates on stroke style and swimming stamina. Older children are also taught personal survival and lifesaving. All children have the chance to work towards Kellogs and ASA swimming awards.
We train in the 6 lane 25m swimming pool at Ampleforth College. This allows swimming to be done by students all the year round.
Swimming galas against other schools are held regularly.
