Hockey

Hockey

Hockey is the main sport for girls in the Michaelmas term.   Boys also play hockey but usually in the Lent Term.  Boys and girls are integrated into hockey through mixed PE and activities.   Lessons are split into periods of specific skills and game play.  The juniors begin with ball and stick control and move onto the push pass.   Seniors will be moved into developing their tactical awareness in attack and defence.

Hockey is coached at St Martin's Ampleforth by Mrs Jill Wood and Mrs Clare Martin.  They are assisted by coaches from Ampleforth College.

As well as fixtures against other school for U9's, U11's and U13's, talented players are encouraged to play for both the District and County.  All children take part in the mixed inter-house hockey competitions which are held once a year.
