There are endless opportunities at St Martin's Ampleforth to let off steam and be creative once lessons are over. Everything our children love in the classroom is mirrored in the range of activities we offer.
Weekday Evening Activities
Activities are arranged for the boarders every evening which they may or may not choose to join in with. Sports Hall activities are very popular at this time, with netball, basketball and football on the Astroturf appearing as regular activities, as is simply relaxing or playing at one of the Football, Pool or Table Tennis tables in the Long Gallery.
Children may also choose to work on an art or craft project or to have a pampering sesion or do some baking.
In the summer the children enjoy the freedom of the grounds to indulge in a spot of den-building or 'Cowboys and Indians' - a glorified game of hide and seek in our extensive and beautiful grounds.
In keeping with the Rule of St Benedict we look on the weekend, to provide a 'balanced life' where our boarders have sufficient time to relax but also benefit from a set of challenging, exciting and enjoyable activities.
Every Sunday afternoon, a member of staff organises an activity which often involves being taken off campus. These can range from shopping in York, to abseiling or mountain biking or even an afternoon oil painting.
There is a swim offered most Sunday afternoons at the St Alban's Sports Centre in Ampleforth and if children want to visit older brothers and sisters at Ampleforth College, there is the opportunity to do that as well.
Also on a Sunday there is an opportunity to visit the village shop in Ampleforth.
On Saturday and Sunday evenings two DVD's are put on. One for the Juniors (PG) and one for the Seniors (12).
