We have a limited number of places for day boys and girls who live locally to Ampleforth.
Day students join a boarding house and become a part of that community in much the same way as their house siblings who board. Day students who join us in Year 9 or Year 12 are encouraged to board on an extended taster free of charge for the first three weeks of the autumn term so that they have the opportunity to become fully integrated into the life of the school and the house community.
We also allow our day students to stay for occasional nights, if a bed is available, by arrangement with their housemaster or housemistress, for which there is a nightly charge (currently £48). Ampleforth is a full boarding school, with a vibrant and busy atmosphere at all times of the school term. For this reason we do not offer flexi-boarding, so that our students are always surrounded by fellow boarders. In some schools, families discover that their children are part of a small group left behind at weekends. By contrast, weekends at Ampleforth are fun filled, with many opportunities for students to enjoy each other’s company and a wide range of activities.
Day students are welcome to stay at school every evening, which means that they can do prep and participate in activities with the boarders.
We operate a bus service each morning, evening and Saturday lunchtime for day students. You can find out further information about this by contacting our travel department.
