On Tuesday 26th November, we had the great privilege of welcoming back to the Valley Arek Hersh and his wife Jean. Since 2008, they have visited the School to give an annual talk to our Sixth Form, to share Arek’s profoundly moving story of surviving the Holocaust.

The talk begins with a one-hour documentary, in which Arek recounts his harrowing experiences whilst revisiting the concentration camps and ghettos where Arek lost most of his family and came close to death on so many occasions. This first-hand testimony coveys the realities of the Holocaust in a way that studying simply cannot capture. Our students and staff were all deeply moved by Arek’s story and were fortunate enough to be given the opportunity to ask questions afterwards.

This truly is a once in a lifetime opportunity and we would like to sincerely thank Arek and Jean for giving their time to share such an incredibly important story.

If you would like to learn more about the opportunities available to our students and gain a glimpse of what life is like here at Ampleforth College, why not come along to our next Open Morning on March 7th 2020? Please click here to book your place. We hope to see you soon!
