Simon Howard

Head of Chemistry

Simon has taught at Ampleforth since 1996 after achieving a first class honours degree in Chemistry and completing a PGCE. He has been Head of Department since September 2011 and was recognized by Stanford University for the quality of his teaching 2013. Simon is also a Sixth form tutor in St Oswald's House and responsible for producing the school timetable.

  • Alasdair Thorpe

    Chemistry Teacher

    Alasdair completed his degree and PGCE at Durham University and then taught for ten years at Loughborough Grammar School. He joined Ampleforth in 1993 and was Head of Department until 2011.  Alasdair was appointed as the school’s Director of Professional Development and also is in charge of ITT.

     

  • Dr Timothy Keslake
    PhD (Leeds), PGCE (York)
    Chemistry Teacher

    Dr Keslake is a chemistry teacher who has joined Ampleforth straight from his PGCE in York. Before becoming a teacher he was an academic at the School of Earth and Environment at Leeds university completing his PhD in 2017.

    Science Technician

    Tina joined the department in September 2008 and plays an invaluable role in Chemistry, preparing the practical work for the department.
