Chris Booth

Head of Basil Hume Scholars, Cricket & Junior Hockey

Chris joined Ampleforth in 2011, he is a key member of academic PE teaching staff, teaching across all examination age groups. With specialisms in both hockey and cricket, Chris has significant playing and coaching experiences across both areas. Chris has represented Warwickshire County Cricket Club at 2nd XI whilst also an active playing member of the MCC. He has been Head of Cricket at the college since 2016. Chris is also responsible for the schools’ Basil Hume Scholarship programme. Focused on the gifted and talented students in the subject areas of Art, Drama, Music, Sport and Design and Technology; Chris works closely with department heads to create and manage an environment that the schools scholars can thrive in. Chris is also an Academic Tutor in St Hugh’s House.

 

  • Jack Miles
    BA (Hons) Coaching Physical Education (Exeter University), iPGCE (Buckingham University)
    Head of Junior Rugby & Strength and Conditioning

    Jack joined us from West Buckland School where he held the role of Assistant Housemaster and 1st Forwards Coach. He was also Devon Rugby U15’s Coach and involved with the Exeter Chiefs Developing Player Programme. Jack has also been closely involved with the Yorkshire Carnigie Developing Players Programme. As Head of Ruby, Jack organises the junior rugby tour and fixtures for the U13 and U11 teams. As Head of Strength and Conditioning, he arranges individual and group programming and timetabling for all teams. 

  • Mike Slingsby
    BA (Hons) Physical Education (University of Cumbria), PGCE with QTS (University of Buckingham)
    Teacher of Physical Education

    Mike has been involved with the College for a number of years as both a teaching assistant and gap year student.  He was part of our Graduate Teaching Programme, having graduated from University of Cumbria with a specialism in Strength and Conditioning. Mike subsequently gained his PGCE (QTS) from the University of Buckingham in 2017. Mike teaches Rugby and Cricket as well as assisting Jack and Will in delivering Strength and Conditioning.

    Mike is also a tutor in St Oswald's House

  • Haley Edgar
    B.Ed. (Hons) in Physical Education (Major) & Science (Minor)
    Teacher of Physical Education

    Hayley is a Teacher of PE and Games, PGCE Mentor and a Year 9 Tutor in St Margaret’s House. She studied to become a teacher of Physical Education at The Cheltenham & Gloucester College of Higher Education, where she completed a B.Ed. (Hons) in Physical Education (Major) & Science (Minor).  She has taught Physical Education in a variety of schools, including over 18 years’ experience in one of the first six state schools to be awarded the Specialist Sports College status.  Before joining Ampleforth, she was Head of Girls’ PE and Fixtures co-ordinator at Queen Ethelburga’s College.  She is married with two children. Hayley has vast experience in teaching all sports including trampoline and dance and her own sporting successes are within Badminton and Athletics.
