Brendan Anglim

Head of Design & Technology

Brendan studied engineering design and appropriate technology after being inspired by Papanek's seminal work on sustainability and international development “Design for the Real World”.  He has been engaged in educational research for over a decade, has been a member of the CCF staff team for even longer and held examiner and moderator posts. He taught at Culford School and Ipswich School before joining Ampleforth in 2001.  After a role as Assistant Housemaster in St Edward’s and St Wilfrid’s he was a Housemaster, alongside Victoria, of St Bede’s for 8 years. Brendan recently finished constructing an earth sheltered eco house, builds bicycles and competes regularly in orienteering, fell and duathlon races.  

  • Victoria Anglim

    Assistant Head of Design & Technology

    After completing her degree in Manufacturing Engineering with Business and German, Victoria gained her PGCE and began her teaching profession in Suffolk. She was head of a D&T department for 7 years, held a regional role for transition, examined for OCR and held a position on the Education Committee of the Institute of Materials, Minerals and Mining.  Victoria joined Ampleforth in 2004 and is Housemistress of St Bede's House, Assistant Head of Boarding and Assistant Child Protection Officer.   She enjoys baking, making jewellery and designing wedding cakes. 

  • Luke Foulger

    BSc (Bangor), PGCE (Bangor)
    Design & Technology Instructor/Technician

    Luke attained his first degree in Sports Science followed by a PGCE in Outdoor Education and Biology. Prior to coming to Ampleforth in 2011 Luke had a varied career including teaching outdoor education, designing and building climbing walls and working as an illustrator for a climbing equipment manufacturer. He enjoys making furniture, toys and sporting equipment and is an outdoor pursuits enthusiast.

  • Phoebe Smith-Andrews
    Art and DT Technician

    Phoebe joined Ampleforth College as an Instructor Technician in 2018. She studied 3D Contemporary Craft specialising in jewellery and metal work at York St John’s University graduating in 2016. Before starting work at the school she worked at Leeds Building Society as a credit controller. Phoebe also helps with one of the Land Rover restoration activity’s and owns a classic Mini.

  • Victoria Cottle
    Art and DT Technician

    Victoria came to Ampleforth College as an Instructor Technician in 2018, after ten years as a technician in a state school in Buckinghamshire. She studied Three Dimensional Design at Barnfield College, specialising in ceramics, glass and jewellery before completing her degree in Art and Design at the University of Bedfordshire. Alongside working within both the Art and Design Technology departments, Victoria is a member of the 4X4 in Schools Activity. She enjoys designing and making silver jewellery inspired by coastal landscapes as well as keeping sketchbooks and painting.
