Each student has at least two opportunities throughout the year to spend a day on retreat, away from the usual rhythm of the school day in order to develop their faith.
Year group retreats are spread across the year whilst the full house retreat takes place in October, with plenty of scope for variety and innovation. Typically, several of the houses might choose to focus on the life and example of local or house saints, either on site or through a pilgrimage. Some houses will visit local sites connected with other saints, such as St Aelred at Rievaulx, Ss Chad and Cedd at Lastingham, Blessed Nicholas Postgate at Egton Bridge or St Hilda at Whitby. Alternatively the house stays on site to allow discussion on their life as a Christian Community, looking at the Rule of St Benedict or at Benedictine Core Values.
