Weekly Reflections on the Rule of St Benedict

We are excited to announce that this week marks the beginning of our new long-term series of running reflections on the Regula Sancti Benedicti, or the 'Rule of St Benedict'. This document, which he wrote around 1500 years ago, still guides many monks and lay people alike. Our weekly publication will offer you the chance to reflect with us on just what St Benedict has to say to us. It is our hope that by joining us in our reflection on these short passages from the Rule, its wisdom will shape your life, as it shapes our own.

Every night at Compline, we reflect on a short passage from the Rule to remind us of what we are striving to live, and to listen to what the Lord may have to say to us. The first word of the Rule of St Benedict is just this: 'Listen'. By listening deeply to what St Benedict is trying to say to us—exploring his words, the traditions which he himself knew, monastic teaching since him, and through our own experience—we hope to be able to convey something of what we have heard. Our whole community will join in offering their personal reflections, and we hope that you will benefit.
