Elder grows in profusion along the byways around Ampleforth Abbey. Picked at their best, these berries give to the simple gin complex fruity, earthy and mineral flavours.

Elderberry has been used to promote health since Old Testament times. Claims are made for it boosing the immune system, protecting the cardiovascular system and the suppression of virus activity. But exceptional claims are made for its ability to reduce stress levels and the effects of stress.

Tautra Muscle Soother
"First Aid for Muscular Pain" (2 oz) is a beeswax based ointment which, massaged into an area of tired or sore muscles, temporarily and gently promotes improved blood circulation there, so assisting the body's natural ability to repair itself.

The nuns of the recently founded Cistercian convent on an island called Tautra, in the Trondheim fjord, (Norway) make this moisturizing cream. "Kloster Krem" (or "Cloister Cream") contains cucumber and avocado with juniper berry essential oil to refresh and lift skin tone. Net weight: 50 grams.

St Olav's Skin Treatment

Ampleforth Abbey Damson Gin 200ml
Locally picked damsons were steeped on site in a simple gin spirit for five months before being bottled and labelled by hand by the monks. It is sweet, but not so sugary that it obscures the deep plum flavours. It is equally delicious drunk neat or over crushed ice. 26% abv, 200ml.

Ampleforth Abbey Sloe Gin 200ml
The sloes for this liqueur are picked from the blackthorn bushes that grow around the rugby pitches in the valley here at Amplefoth. They are steeped for at least 5 months in simple gin spirit before being hand bottled and labelled by the monks. It is less sugary than some examples, allowing the fruit flavour to come through. It is a delicious winter warmer on its own, or, as a summer aperitif poured over crushed ice with a dash of tonic. 26% abv, 200ml. Sorry, TEMPORARILY OUT OF STOCK!

Ampleforth Cider Brandy 200ml
Produced from apples grown using natural techniques in our own orchards at Ampleforth and aged in oak barrels for three years, this cider brandy combines traditional monastic skills and modern technology for the highest standards of distillation. It smells intensely of apples. The taste is completely dry - somewhere between calvados and grappa. At 40% alcohol it should be drunk in small quantities as a digestif.
