Ever since the penal days, when it was illegal for Catholic priests to be in England (from the time of Queen Elizabeth I to 1792) Benedictine monks have served many parishes of England.

We still hold a dozen, together with their chapels of ease, mostly served from the monastery at Ampleforth, or our monastery at Brownedge, Lancs. Some of the dates of these parishes go back, as you will see, well into penal times, when many priests, and those harbouring them, were put to death if they were caught.

We are proud still to be serving the local Church in this way, in cooperation with the bishops.

Use the drop down list here, and also the maps (links in the bar to the left), to find information on each parish. Where there exists a parish website, you will find the link.
