Tim Berner was the son of Jack Berner (for a time Director of the Lourdes Pilgrimage who died in 1990) and Joan Berner. He was the elder brother of Simon Berner (W74).

 

Tim was in St Wilfrid's House under Fr Dominic Milroy (W50) between 1966 and December 1971.  He studied Modern History at Magdalen College, Oxford from 1972 to 1975, and then as a law student at the Inn of Court School of Law from 1975 to 1978.

 

He qualified both as a barrister and a solicitor. He practised as a barrister at 12 New Square in Lincoln Inn from 1978 to 1982.  From 1982 onwards he praqctised as a solicitor in various firms and after 1988 at Raddiffen.

 

He married Elizabeth Catherine Coombe . Tim and Elizabeth had three children: Dominic Edward (born 5 October 1984, J2003), Juliet Clare (born 8 Octoner 1986) and Gabriel Rebecca Benediga (born 12 May 1988). 

 

He studied and obtained a Diploma in Pastoral Theology between 2000 and 2002.

 

He had been ill for many years, suffering from Motor Neurone Disease. He was on the Committee of the Group of Solicitors with Disabilities. He was a member of the Motor Neurone Association. He was on the Council of Christiand and Jews. He was on the Committee of the Wimbledon branch of the Law Society.

 

Tim died quite suddenly of a virus on 23 November 2007.
