London Marathon 2008

SAM STILL (W00) ran the London Marathon on 13 April 2008 in 4hours, 1 minute, 30seconds - running for the British Red Cross and their fund for UK Victims of Terrorism Abroad. He writes: "It was an incredible event.  Obviously loads of runners, but also an incredible number of spectators all around the course, even with the rain.  It was very easy to get distracted by it all and lose you pacing, about half way round I took off like a gazelle, only to hit the wall hard at mile 21.  Though, still managed to crawl in with a time of 4hours and 1minute 30secs"

Sam was injured in a terrorist bomb in Dahab, Egypt in April 2006, then training for the World Championships in Freediving. "At that time, I was World Champion in Static Apnea, able to hold my breath for nearly 10minutes. Unfortunately, my life has completely changed from that of before the attack and have only been back in the water diving a handful of times. I was blown up in 2006. The only real lasting damage is my foot, a broken metatarsal, something that has haunted England footballers, like Beckham and Rooney. I've recovered well, my foot is still broken, but it doesn't seem to stop me doing things just yet"

www.samstill.co.uk and www.justgiving.com/samstillBy 12 April 2008, he had raised £3484.20 on justgiving - if you add on the tax relief expected, the total comes to £3979.20 [posted 16 April 2008, updated 20 April 2008]
