Raonuil Ogilvie born 29 June 1920; Gilling Castle (founder member); Junior House 1931-33; St Aidan’s House September 1933-July 1938;  Gordon Highlanders - captured by the Germans at St Valery 1940, at POW camp in Poland 1940-44; Knight of Malta; married (7 children); died 8 September Scotland.

Major Raonuil Ogilvie was the youngest of seven children (included one adopted daughter) of Charles George Ogilvie of Leys, a tin miner and rubber planter in Malaya. He was the brother of Sheilagh [married Johnny Leigh], Iain (A31, died 1997), Nial (C34, died 2007), Alasdair [killed by a taxis in Paris], Marsalaidh [adopted] and Ealasaidh. He was a founder member of Gilling. Then he came to the Junior House and St Aidan's House, leaving in July 1938.

 

Raounul Ogilvie was a Gordon Highlander who was captured by the Germans at St Valery in 1940 and taken to a POW camp in Poland, where he remained from 1940 to 1944.   Luckly the Germans released the POWs before the Russian advance overwhelmed the camp. 

 

He married after the end of the war. He had four children: David (D65), Fiona, Sarah and John - Fiona married Michael Lukas (D1970). His grandchildren include Harry Lukas (O99) and Will Lukas (O05) [the sons of Michael and Fiona Lukas]. His nephews include Alasdair Ogilvie (A66) [the son of Iain (A31, died 1997)], Lt Col Michael Leigh (A58) and David Leigh (A60, now High Sheriff of Herefordshire and Worcestershire [the sons of Sheila and John Leigh]. Philip Ogilvie (C66) is a cousin, being the great-grandson of Raouil’s father.

 

He was a Knight of Malta.

 

Raounul Ogilvie died on 8 September 2007, aged 87
