Long distance running

NIALL THORBURN-MUIRHEAD (O95) is running the length of Ireland. James Carty wrote [20 August 2006] "You all know my school friend and ex-flat mate Niall. What you probably don't know is that he is about to run the length of Ireland (some 320 miles, running 20 miles a day) to raise money for two leading cancer hospitals. He has been in training, running over 50 miles per week (on top of holding down a job), for over 100 days and hasn't touched a drop of booze for several weeks. This really is a very worthy cause. All the money raised will go to help develope disabled skiers like myself within the British Adaptive Ski Team and help them continue in their increasing success throughout the year with the aim to bring back some gold medals from the 2010 Winter Paralympics in Vancouver.
We will be the largest Disabled group taking part, consisting of blind, amputee and wheelchair racers. If you could send this to everybody that you know in the hope that they may sponsor the Adaptive Ski Team and myself. Please dig deep as every penny counts. I am very grateful for all generous contributions.

Thank you very much. All the best. Tim Farr

At the AGM of OARFC on 21 April 2006, officials of the club were elected. Sam Martin and George Hickman (D93) are the new Captains to the 1st and 2nd XV. John Dick (O77), Loughlinn Kennedy (D97), Nick Hughes (C90), Robert Record (C95) and Rupert Whitelaw (J88) stepped down at this meeting.

President: John Willcox; Chairman: Simon Codrington

Hon Secretary: Rob Pitt (T95); Treasurer: Johnny Hughes; Director of Rugby  Justin Costelloe (D99); Captain: Sam Martin; Vice Captain:   Alexander Codrington (J94); 2nd XV Captain: George Hickman (D93); Coaches: TBA and Toby Codrington (J91); Fixtures Secretary Simon Harle (C98); Social Secretary: Patrick Tolhurst (C99); Players Rep: Tom Rose (T97).

The club looks set to stay in the London SW4 division, so is able to offer competitive rugby coupled with an active social side. Training is held in Battersea Park on a Wednesday night during the season, with the opportunity for people to become involved with touch rugby over the summer on Clapham Common. It has proved a great way over the years for the younger generations to mix with the older crowd. The club has non OA's within the ranks but the committee would like to ensure that the old boys form at least 2/3 of the first XV. The open nature does allow for people to bring along friends to the club. I would also like to point out that we have in the past been able to field players on the year off.

Should anyone want to get more information they can contact either Robert Pitt or Justin Costelloe. [posted 10 May 2006].
