The Use and Abuse of the Bible
A brief history of biblical inerpretation by Henry Wansbrough OSB.

Fr Henry brings a lifetime of love and study of the Bible to this work which looks at how different generatons have read the scriptures for their own time and purposes. He begins with how the apostolic church read the Hebrew scriptures to find Christ in them, and concludes with modern political uses, including the situation in modern Israel.

Fr Henry is currently the Executive Secretary of the Commission which is preparing a new English Lectionary.

Seven Last Words

Cooking Apples

We have published a revised version of Fr Edmund Hatton's book of apple recipes which was extremely popular back in 1982. This edition contains some new dishes, as well as the old favourites, making more than a hundred delicious recipes covering soups, main courses, desserts and cakes.

A delightful addition are the full page photographs of the valley and orchards.

It also includes some information on the famous orchards, managed at present by Fr Rainer, famous for his cider and cider brandy. He also offers some culinary tips and tricks, as well as expert advice to those who wish to look after their own apple tree at home!

The book is ringbound to lie flat in use and the paper is to some extent 'wipe-clean' to protect it a little better in the kitchen environment.

Not Strangers but Pilgrims
A History of Ampleforth in Lourdes, by Bernard Green OSB.

The first chapter of this admirably written book covers the growth of Lourdes as a shrine but the remainder is precisely about the pilgrimages from Ampleforth to this extraordinary place. Gilling Castle

This pamphlet, 65pp long, recounts the history of Gilling Castle from its building in the 14th century to the year 2007. A Turning to God
